●Three independent research institutions report that the sustainable development of global IT and data center industry is still in its infancy
●73%of enterprises listed sustainable development as the second priority,but only 33%of enterprises formulated sustainable development strategic planning
Beijing,China,November 29,2022–Recently,Schneider Electric,a digital transformation expert in the field of global energy management and automation,commissioned Forrester Consulting,Canalys and 451 Research(the authoritative research institution of S&P Global Market Financial Intelligence),three global independent research institutions,to investigate the sustainable development process of IT and data center industries,and released relevant reports.
The three research institutions collected the feedback of 3000 participants from global hosting and cloud service providers,IT solution providers and cross-industry professional IT personnel groups,and carried out research based on relevant data.The results show that the sustainable development of IT and data center industry is still in its infancy,and there is still a gap between the sustainable development plan and specific practice of most enterprises.
451 Research’s report reveals the gap between the industry’s perception of sustainable development and the current situation.Enterprises generally believe that their sustainable development plans are in the lead,but nearly half(48%)of the respondents of enterprises do not agree with their perception of the maturity of sustainable development projects.Forrester Consulting’s research focuses on the field of host hosting.Among them,73%of enterprises listed sustainability as the second priority of enterprise development,but only 33%of enterprises formulated strategic plans for sustainable development.Canalys’research shows that IT channel partners have begun to invest in sustainable development strategies,but still lack clear objectives and plans,and it is difficult to translate investment into practical actions.Among them,61%of IT channel partners have full-time staff for sustainable development,but only one third have set ESG goals.
Sustainable development process of the industry
In order to help the industry better understand the current process of sustainable development,Schneider Electric commissioned three independent research institutions to carry out research and write reports:
●451 Research’s report,”Frontier of Sustainable Development-Sustainable Development Plan and Actual Gap between Centralized and Distributed IT Industry”,covers more than 20 vertical industries and more than 1150 large and medium-sized enterprises in the world,and shows the sustainable measures based on distributed IT architecture in detail.
Analysts said that most of the surveyed enterprises were optimistic about their sustainable development.In this field,the driving force of sustainable development is business value.Enterprises often start with energy use and gradually expand to other sustainable development indicators and tools.The study found that the primary challenge for these enterprises to implement sustainable development is to optimize the energy structure.For leading enterprises,the challenge also includes obtaining consistent data and indicators;For start-ups,the challenge also includes the lack of relevant technical personnel.
●Forrester Consulting’s Thought Leadership Report on Reconstructing Hosting Strategy with Sustainable Thinking as the First:conducted research on 1033 sustainable development decision-makers of global hosting service providers to explore the driving force of sustainable development in the industry.The report also shows the main challenges faced by the host hosting industry,as well as the most sustainable investment segments in the technology stack.
The report points out that the surveyed enterprises generally lack the overall strategy of leading sustainable development projects,and only 33%of the enterprises said that they have formulated sustainable development plans,which shows that the sustainable development of the industry is still in the initial stage.The key for enterprises to successfully implement sustainable development in the future is to find suitable partners.At the same time,it is expected that hiring external consulting companies will increase the project maturity by about 33%,thus promoting sustainable development.
●Canalys”How do partners develop sustainable development strategies?”research report:through the survey of 500 IT solution providers,the readiness of the global IT channel ecosystem in the process of sustainable development is clarified,and the role of IT channel partners in the broader ecosystem is defined.
Canalys pointed out that 60%of respondents have designated exclusive resources for ESG,and 40%of respondents expect to gain benefits through sustainable development solutions.Although IT channel partners have invested in sustainable development strategies,they are still difficult to translate into practical actions.In addition,the research also confirmed that the market has a wide demand for end-to-end sustainable solutions from IT technology providers.
