PLC generally consists of four parts: CPU, memory, I/O system and other optional components. The first three parts are necessary for the PLC to complete various control tasks and are generally called the basic components of the PLC. Other optional components include programmer, external memory, simulation I/O, communication interface, extension interface and test equipment, etc., mainly used for system programming configuration, program storage, communication networking, system expansion and system testing.
First, CPU
CPU is the core component of PLC. It should be noted that in the PLC, the concept of CPU is very different from the CPU of an ordinary microcomputer. In PLC, CPU refers to not an integrated circuit, but a template, which not only includes the CPU chip, but also RAM and ROM or EPROM. Moreover, in the medium and large PLC, there are generally two CPU chips in the CPU template, one is used as a word processor (main processor) for processing byte instructions, and achieve various control functions; The other piece is used as a word processor (auxiliary processor) for high-speed processing of bit messages.
Two, digital I/O interface
Acts as an interface between the CPU template and external switching signals. It performs tasks such as level conversion, electrical isolation, string/parallel data conversion, and provides a certain drive capability. Digital I/O signals often come from actual switching quantities such as buttons, switches, and relay contacts, as well as from other peripherals or controlled objects.
3. Simulate I/O interfaces
The input part mainly completes the impedance matching, signal amplification, signal filtering, I/V transformation, V/F transformation or A/D transformation, so as to convert the simulation quantity from the controlled object into the digital quantity that the PLC can process. The output part mainly realizes the functions of impedance matching, power amplification, waveform correction and so on. In some cases, the simulation signal also needs to be isolated from the field electrical. However, the isolation of analog signals is much more complicated than that of digital signals. The photoelectric isolation used for digital signals cannot be used to isolate simulation signals due to poor linearity, so simulation signals often use costly isolation amplifiers to achieve electrical isolation.
4. Special function template
Special function templates generally have their own CPU and system software, work in parallel with the PLC CPU template, and interface with the CPU template through the PLC system bus. Common special function templates include: high-speed counting board (can meet the counting or timing requirements of more than 100KHz), closed-loop control template with fast PID regulator, communication template, etc.
