3.Current source inverter(csi)-performance comparison between voltage source inverter and current source inverter

3 Current source inverter(csi)

Among the products appearing in the domestic market,only the high voltage converter of ab company is used.The high voltage converter of other brands and all the low voltage converters do not use this csi scheme.A new book[7]appears in China,which discusses this most.This scheme has characteristics in technical principle.In order to clarify its internal essence,it is better to discuss it for comparison with the performance of voltage source inverter.

3.1 Rectangular wave current output

The earliest line scheme is the use of thyristor series diode type,that is,the use of forced commutation,and the use of load commutation to drive synchronous motors.Because there are few applications on the market today,the line principle is not introduced here,but only its external characteristics are discussed below.In science and technology books,we have introduced many popular documents with csi features[4].The main features of csi are as follows:

(1)The intermediate DC current is basically without pulsation,and the DC circuit presents high impedance;

(2)The output current at the AC side is rectangular wave,independent of the load impedance angle;

 

(3)The output voltage waveform and phase at the AC side are determined by the load impedance;

(4)When the AC side is a resistive load,reactive power needs to be provided.In order to feedback reactive energy,the current is not reversed,so it is not necessary to reverse the diode for the switching device like the voltage source inverter.The DC side inductor can store and release reactive energy;

(5)In the same way,the active energy can be fed back to the AC power grid through the thyristor bridge.Do not set another set of inverter bridge circuit for feedback to the power grid;

(6)Requirements for trigger signal:DC chain shall always have current flow path instead of open circuit,and AC side shall not have short circuit path.

Why is the output AC current rectangular wave?Because there is a large inductance on the DC side,it can stabilize the DC current(but not constant current).Why is the output AC voltage waveform determined by the load impedance?This is because v=iz,where i is a rectangular wave with a width of 120°in both forward and reverse directions,and z is the load reactance,which can be decomposed into fundamental wave and characteristic harmonic.The load at the AC current side is the motor,and its load characteristic is the resistive load.For each harmonic,the harmonic reactance is h times of the fundamental reactance,and h is the characteristic harmonic number,such as 5,7,etc.However,it should be noted that the large inductance at the DC side is equivalent to a large power internal reactance for each harmonic,and there will be a large harmonic voltage drop on this large inductance.As a result,the output AC voltage waveform is not sine wave,But it is by no means rectangular wave,which is close to sine wave.The reason should be that most of the harmonic voltage is removed from the large DC inductor.

3.2 pwm modulated wave output

The fundamental current waveform of the modulated wave is a rectangular wave because it is a current source.After pwm modulation,the envelope of the current waveform has been initially close to sine wave,but it is inevitable that there are still high-frequency current waves generated by the modulation frequency,which will also be suppressed by the large inductance of the intermediate DC link.Due to the high frequency,the suppression effect is stronger,so the AC output,whether current wave or voltage wave,is close to sine wave,The basic reason should be the result of suppressing characteristic harmonic components and high-frequency components by large inductance.

In the high-voltage converter,in addition to the amplitude of the output voltage,the main threat to the motor is the dv/dt in the output AC voltage.The essence of this high value of dv/dt is the high-frequency voltage component.The same reason as the above analysis,the value of dv/dt is greatly reduced due to the inhibition effect of the large DC inductance.

3.3 Filtering effect of output and input capacitance

The output end of current source inverter pulse width modulation(csi-pwm)has a set of parallel capacitors,which are designed to provide current path during the commutation process(due to the large inductance of the DC circuit,the current cannot be turned off,and it is advisable to find another path).The bypass capacitance has a small and smaller impedance to the harmonic and high-frequency components of the current,respectively(at the same time,the parallel capacitance also flows through a small fundamental component),so it also plays a certain filtering role,Make the current flowing to the motor closer to the sine wave.Similarly,a group of parallel capacitors is also required at the input end of AC power supply,but it is easy to produce lc series resonance with the inductance in the power grid system.In order to avoid wiping vibration,the product manufacturer must take suppression measures.Literature[7]introduces the low-loss active damping scheme.

4 Harmonic current at grid side of frequency converter

This harmonic current has nothing to do with the inverter circuit.It only depends on whether the circuit in front of the converter and the intermediate DC input rectifier part use capacitance or inductance smoothing.The following will not discuss the pwm rectifier.The pwm rectifier has good performance and can operate in four quadrants with high cosφ,Low harmonic,but high frequency disturbance is transmitted to the power grid(related to modulation frequency).The main problem is the high price.Here,we will only discuss the harmonics output to the power grid by the commonly used three-phase or multi-phase rectifier devices.
