GE Digital and Gerdau announced that the two companies have agreed to work together to transform the steelmaker’s industrial operations, a first for the global steel industry. After proving the value of the solution through small-scale deployments, Gerdau decided to launch GE Digital’s software and services to connect 600 assets across 11 plants in Brazil.

50510-113-0000 GE’s Asset Performance management (APM) solution for Gerdau includes GE’s SmartSignal and Historian software, services, and remote monitoring and analysis expertise from GE’s Industrial Performance and Reliability Center (IPRC) in Illinois.

martSignal is part of GE’s suite of APM solutions to identify impending equipment failures before they occur. With this additional lead time, companies can transition from a passive maintenance process to a preventive and predictive one, and help avoid unplanned equipment downtime. SmartSignal works by leveraging existing data stored and collected by GE’s timing data history software to provide early and actionable warnings of upcoming equipment and process issues, allowing operators to focus on solving problems rather than finding them. The Industrial Performance and Reliability Center (IPRC) helps powerful new technology and field maintenance engineers leverage proven predictive analytics to prevent unplanned downtime.

Working with GE’s IPRC, Gerdau identified two “grips” for potential asset issues that could be addressed with early planned maintenance without impacting the business.
