1. Field control unit
The field control unit is generally far away from the control center and installed near the site, and its highly modular structure can be configured into process control units ranging in size from a few monitoring points to hundreds of monitoring points according to the needs of process monitoring and control.
The structure of the field control unit is composed of a number of decentralized boards (or cards) installed in the board box according to a certain logical or physical sequence, and the bus connection between the field control unit and the control management level is adopted to realize information exchange.
The hardware configuration of the onsite control unit is as follows:

Hardware redundancy configuration Redundant configuration of key devices is an important means to improve the reliability of DCS. DCS can realize redundant configuration of host plug-ins, power plug-ins, communication plug-ins, network plug-ins, and critical I/O plug-ins.

In essence, the structural form and configuration requirements of the field control unit are consistent with the hardware configuration of the modular PLC.
2. Operation station
The operation station is used to display and record the process data from each control unit, and is the operation interface for people to interact with the production process information. Typical operating stations include host systems, display devices, keyboard input devices, information storage devices and print-out devices, etc., mainly to achieve powerful display functions (such as analog parameter display, system status display, a variety of screen display, etc.), alarm function, operation function, report printing function, configuration and programming functions.
In addition, DCS operation station is also divided into operator station and engineer station. From the system function point of view, the former mainly realizes the general production operation and monitoring tasks, with data acquisition and processing, monitoring screen display, fault diagnosis and alarm functions. In addition to the general functions of the operator station, the latter should also have the configuration of the system, the modification of the control target and other functions. In terms of hardware equipment, most systems have engineer and operator stations combined and are distinguished by only one engineer keyboard.
