The signal module is the interface for the process operation of the controller. Many different digital and analog modules provide accurate input/output according to the requirements of each task. Digital and analog modules differ in the number of channels, voltage and current ranges, electrical insulation, diagnostic and alarm functions, and so on. The signal module is not only scalable in the central rack, but can also be connected to the central controller via the PROFIBUS DP. It supports hot swap, which makes module replacement extremely simple.
Design and function
Easy to install
Connect the sensor/actuator through the front connector. After replacing the module, simply plug the front connector into a new module of the same type and retain the original wiring. Automatic coding on the front connector prevents errors. You can also detect if the front connector is plugged in.
Fast connection
SIMATIC TOP connections make connections easier and faster. Pre-assembled front connectors with a single cable core and complete plug-in modular systems with front connector modules, connecting cables and terminal boxes are available.
High assembly density
A large number of channels in the module achieve a space-saving design. For example, modules with 16 to 32 digital channels and 8 to 16 analog channels can be used.
Simple parameter setting
These modules are configured and parameterized using STEP 7 and do not require inconvenient conversion Settings. The data is stored centrally, and if the module is replaced, the data is automatically transferred to the new module to avoid any setup errors. No software upgrade is required when using the new module. Configuration information can be copied as needed, for example for standard machines.
Diagnosis, interruption
Many INNIS21 modules also monitor signal acquisition (diagnostics) and signals returned from processes (process interruptions, such as edge detection). This makes it possible to react immediately to errors in the process (such as wire breaks or short circuits) as well as to any process events (such as rising or falling edges when a digital quantity is entered). With STEP 7, you can easily program the controller’s response. On digital input modules, each module can trigger multiple interrupts.
