This is the only way to implement new Ethernet APL compatible devices in a short period of time. Softing supports manufacturers facing this challenge with its new commModule APL, a low-cost SMD hardware module. commModule APL provides a pre-installed PROFINET stack with a configurable application data model as well as command mapping that can be used to migrate existing HART and Modbus devices to Ethernet APL without writing any code. Assignment of HART or Modbus commands is done using the corresponding commScripter tool. commModule APL has completed extensive EMC and environmental testing, as well as conformance testing of the Ethernet-APL physical layer and PROFINET protocol with PA Profile 4.02. The module is also pre-certified to ATEX and IECEx standards. All of these attributes help to greatly reduce the need to consider when developing device hardware from scratch
