The ProTech model 8440-1713/D  is a 120 Vac/dc unit.In this system,each of the three speed sensing units has a separate power supply.This is part of the modular design of Woodward’s overspeed protection device,which enables the hot replacement of individual units and the testing of individual units without taking the prime mover offline.
The speed sensing units A,B,and C in Model 8440-1713/D  are identical.In addition to having a separate power supply,these devices also have a separate operating interface and alarm system.These three units are configured with a two-out-of-three voting method.Prior to hardware voting,the three units worked independently,monitoring the speed of the prime mover with a magnetic pickup(mpu)and performing speed calculations separately.

The three units that make up ProTech Model 8440-1713/D must have the same stroke point programming.The program mode is accessed via key switches connected to all three units.Due to the modular design of this Woodward system,the units are individually programmed.
Adjustable parameter setting when the unit is in program mode.These parameters are:
Travel speed set points(250 RPM to 25,000 RPM)
MPU gear teeth(20 to 120)
MPU Failed Timeout(1 SEC to 533 min 20 SEC)
MPU fault set point(100rpm to 25000rpm)
