The solutions and products of Siemens Medium Voltage Division(for air or gas insulated substation products anywhere in the world)are widely used worldwide.Their main task is to distribute energy safely and economically.Over the years,with the increasing demand for reliable energy supply and the continuous improvement of technical requirements,the complexity of Siemens coordination system has also increased.Therefore,the company decided to shift from the document-oriented E-CAE tool to the database-based Engineering Base(EB)platform.

Data-centric process optimization

Andrea Forster said,”We want a system that can optimize the process and improve the automation.The evaluation process is completely open,but we have chosen AUCOTEC again.As a long-term partner,we trust each other.”As an industry technical expert,he is very familiar with the”past and present”of EB,and participated in the introduction of EB by Siemens Energy High Voltage Business Unit.In 2019,she was appointed as the renewal expert of the medium-voltage system.Now,she is responsible for training EB power users and serving as the platform contact in this field.The application scope of EB in substation design extends from single-line diagram to secondary schematic diagram of switch products,cabinet layout and wiring.Forster pointed out that”EB not only helps us save additional layout design tools,but also can seamlessly calculate the length of wires in EB,which can save materials and costs.”

EB automation

The industrial technology expert was pleased to say that”EB’s cross-department collaborative design capability can achieve process standardization and create synergy,thus improving the design quality,”she explained.Almost all engineering design processes have been analyzed to fully tap the potential of EB.For example,you can automatically create a single-line or section view based on the project structure and the equipment used.In addition,the engineering design team is making efforts to standardize and modularize its circuit icons to maximize the role of EB ATM(Advanced Typical Manager),i.e.,advanced typical management,and to achieve the automation of schematic design as much as possible.

In addition,medium-voltage professionals highly recognize EB’s openness to complementary systems,such as order,3D or production equipment directly integrated with EB’s data.Andrea Forster said,”This can minimize errors,save designers’time and significantly improve product quality.”He added,”The data generated by EB is applied to as many fields as possible.In addition,the data model also supports innovative solutions,such as the future application of artificial intelligence.For us,this change is an important step towards the future.”
